Procurement - the Right Way At CMSL, we do things different. We don't just look for the lowest item cost on an invoice; we look at how it impacts every aspect of your organization in what we call evidence-based healthcare procurement.
It is critical at the outset to understand what defines truly effective and cost-efficient procurement. Healthcare procurement is NOT simply about lowest invoice cost. Truly cost effective healthcare procurement is far more complex, requiring:
- Focus on the CLINICAL OUTCOME that is targeted to be achieved as well as responsiveness to clinicians' needs and treatment preferences.
- Overall VALUE - Procurement that not only provides basket and line items savings, but provides education (both official languages), procurement support (edi, bar coding), and reporting.
- MEASURABILITIES - A two-fold approach is essential, and must include:
- An ongoing focus on savings throughout the contract life cycle and measurement of these savings.
- Identification of the clinical outcome and monitoring and evaluating to ensure these clinical needs are being met.
Truly effective healthcare procurement MANAGES efficiencies - not just invoice cost and rebate/dividend return. National GPOs focus primarily on invoice and/or unit cost.
